animals and children

Who was it that said you should never work with animals and children? Well yesterday I had a sneak peak into the logic behind it.

Mils and I brought Alice to the vet yesterday for her annual shot. It was quite a feat, of the circus kind. First I was the strong woman as I carried the cat cage into the clinic in one hand and Mils in the other. Then I was the one-armed bandit as I held a wriggly baby in one arm and with my free hand, was helping the doc hold down a very cranky kitty so he could stick a thermometer in her exit hole.

Of course while all this was happening Mils had to do a number two so I quickly ducked out to the car to change said wriggly baby’s nappy in the backseat. It was messy so I spent a lot of time and baby wipes on that.

When Alice was done getting her shot, there was the thing about getting everybody back into the car with just my two hands. So – I left Mils in the clinic (in her pram) looking at the husky puppy while I quickly loaded Lis into the boot. Then I went back into the clinic to find Mils a nanosecond away from bawling her eyes out (she realised mum wasn’t around), soothed her, rolled her out, put her into her car seat and off we drove, the four of us – Mils, Alice, dirty nappy and me (humming a happy, please-don’t-cry, tune), surviving another day of chaos and control…

Where was Ga through all this?  He was at home, working on some songs, because I told him I was fine and I could manage on my own. I was right, but only just!

The Silly Season

Gabs and the Bean kicked off the festive season with carols by candlelight at the school grounds last Saturday.

Kindies sang ‘Away in the Manger’ with recorder accompaniment

The Junior Choir belted it out with ‘When Christmas Comes to Town’

As much as I wish that I could send Bean to a Steiner school, I have to say that in all fairness, BHNPS is a pretty wonderful school. The Celebration of Learning Assembly yesterday reminded me of that fact.

Bean’s batch are going on to year 2 next year (I cannah believe it!) and the teachers put together a do to showcase the talent of their kids.  I was impressed by 1M remebering all Dem Bones and what they’re connected to.  I loved 1T’s rendition of We Wish You a Merry Christmas which they played on bells.  But I was most surprised by 1C’s tiny dancer on Snappy the Crocodile:

What a cracker!

All those hours of watching ‘Hairspray’ has evidently paid off.

High five! Congrats!
